Hi
Could any body give me any clues what to look for in buying a V70,Ive got about £3000 to spend. I dont mind what engine, but i would like a bit of power. Could somebody tell me what a torlander is?
I new to the Volvo so any help would be great.
Thanks in advance for any help.

V70s are great cars: well built, reliable, incredibly comfortable and practical. If you want a quick one then get a T5, £3000 will get you a fairly decent one. With the T5s you need to keep an eye on the turbo because they seem to go every 80k or so and the boost bias pipe can split (not a difficult DIY job to replace) and don't expect more than 10k out of a set of front tyres. The 5 cylinder engine and the transmission are very solid: my dad's old 850 T5 still ran perfectly at 200k and he only got rid of it because he pranged it on the ice and the insurers wrote it off because of steering damage. Don't buy based on mileage either, they last for ever and mileage really isn't an indicator of condition on them as it is on a lot of cars.

ETA.

As far as I am aware Torslanda is a trim level named after the Torslanda factory.

I have a 2002 T5 for 6 years now, has 170k on the clock and drives very well, gives between 25 and 28mpg depending on use.

Not had anything other than service parts , in fact brake master cyclinder at 110k and drop links twice now .

If I was buying again I would go for the D5 purely due to the excellent fuel consumption , but the T5 is very good fun and an excellent sleeper .
