Saw a lovely XC90 at the weekend - 2005/56 reg D5 SE Lux, 46k miles. Nice colour, lots of kit. Is there anything in particular I should look out for/should know before I talk to the dealer.

Price - there were and may still be some cracking deals on new ones!

I managed to get an active d5 quoted @ 21k new - so might be worth weighing up against paying high price 2nd hand.

Where did you get that quote from? and when?

The one I was looking at was at the "right" price if the Car Price magazines are to be believed.

I honestly can't remember but if you are nice to T5R+ he might remember as he supplied the contact.

That was a manual active, the geartronic was a bit extra @ circa 22k.

I got a similar quote from Clive Brook in Bradford so there was deals to be had. I think its because its being phased out sometime but I could be wrong given that was talked about 8-9 months ago.

I think 2nd hand prices are very high IMHO given you can get a heavy discount on a new version. I have even seen the Active spec up for more 2nd hand that you can buy new - so just be careful.

Thanks for that - the D5 manual is being phased out due to lack of demand apparently. I want the Geartronic anyway. Cheapest I can find a new one for is about £28k with the kit on it that I want and that is still more than I want to (or can) pay.

You appear to be able to get a V70 at about the price I want to pay but there is just something appealing about the bigger XC90.

The daft deals that were on are now long gone, prices of the cars have gone up (thanks to the exchange rate) and the discounts the dealers had are no longer.

They were a fantastic buy at that price and as you have said some used ones are more than what they were new.
