OK, getting very bored with normal TV on top of studying which means I need some brain stimulation. Being watching a few things recently, ‘The genius of’ series, a mate suggested ‘The Trap’ which was interesting and thought provoking.

So the PH massive, what stuff is out there that is interesting and intelligent?

Wonders of the Solar System is a great recent documentary series. The sequel, Wonders of the Universe, is currently in the works.

I really enjoyed (if that's the right word) the documentary film Dear Zachary: A letter to a son about his father. A really amazing and moving story and I thought the documentary style was excellent and quite compelling.

Also recently watched The Cove which is fairly horrendous but equally quite fascinating and well put together.

Tsunami: caught on camera was fairly good as well. Gripping, amazing footage from people who were right there and also some quite interesting and sad first person perspectives.

Not sure if that's what you're after but I'd certainly strongly recommend all three anyway smile

Bronowski's "The Ascent of Man"

Clarke's "Civilisation"

Roamer's "Testament"

if you can find them on DVD.

Brilliant series all.

Okay I stand a good chance of being flamed here, but I'm going to put forward: Al Murray's Road to Berlin.

I thought he made a fantatsic series about a subject, and particular topic that he is vey passionate about and I was very interested in at the time.

Good suggestion. Horrific what goes on there. Bit of suspense as well.

Suggest Bitter Lake on bbc I player about Afghanistan.

Very stylised, dragged occasionally but really made an impression.

Everything is a Rich Man's Trick

Very good documentary about how those that make money from war have done a very good job since WW1 keeping wars going for profit.

EDIT: Info:
The who, how & why of the JFK assassination. Taken from an historical perspective starting around world war 1 leading to present day. We hope after watching this video you will know more about what happened in the past and how the world is run today.

Don McCullin's account of 30 years as a war photographer.

Grisly in parts, but absolutely compelling.

If you can get a UK version of the DVD then "Azorian: The Raising of the K-129" is well worth a watch.

Tells how the CIA tried to raise a sunken soviet nuclear sub from 5km underwater, under the noses of the Russians. "Project Azorian was one of the most complex, expensive, and secretive intelligence operations of the Cold War at a cost of about $800 million ($3.8 billion in 2015 dollars)."

Bloody impressive engineering challenge never mind how they kept it secret.

Have you guys watched anything with Ken O'Keefe?

He was a marine but has since renounced his US Citizenship to raise awareness about the World's true power agents.

There was a short lived publicly funded TV channel called The People's Voice which featured Ken. He openly asks (more like demands) for all his views, opinions and research to be questioned. Well worth a watch!
