I know that there is a Ryan Air thread but I thought this crowd of pillocks deserved one of their own.

I've just finished booking my wife on a return trip to Edinburgh from Southampton using Flybe, who have a monopoly on this route.
Overall price: £157.96 return, which I consider a reasonable price for the ticket. Where I do get bloody annoyed at Flybe, and all the other cut price sky pirates as well, is their treatment of customers as idiots.
We start off with a low fare to which we have to add taxes. So far so good. Then we have to add £6 per flight to select a seat. Now these have already been selected for you and as far as I can see if you want to change them then that costs another £5 per flight on top of the £6. It also seems that you can't opt out of the booking process and do it at check-in.
Next we have to pay for baggage at £11 per piece per flight. Insurance we don't want and anyway it doesn't cover anything, but you still have to jump through the hoop and it's very easy to agree to it and not realise. Ditto with the car hire section. But the real pi$$ boiler is right at the end when they charge you £10 or £11 for the use of a Debit or Credit card. Visa Electron seems to be free. WTF sort of arrangement is that.
I would like to be treated as an adult and told the all up price and be offered a DISCOUNT if I do not want to check in a bag.
I came very close to cancelling the whole ticket, but it's still a small price to pay for ten days peace, and besides, my wife needs to have a wheelchair from Check-in to the plane etc and they don't dare yet charge for that!! And we won't tell them for a bit.

Conversely, I find FlyBe to be pretty reasonable compared with the likes of BMIBaby. Certainly seems a lot more straightforward in terms of charging transparency.

Using Aberdeen as our home airport we have little choice in carriers, and have to use FlyMayBe to get to Gatwick and Birmingham. I must say that yes, I find the pricing annoying, but all the economy carriers are the same, and at least FlyMayBe allocate seats so you don't have a fight to get on first. I certainly find them far superior to Sleasyjet and RyanAir.

You don't have to select a seat. You can continue without selecting a seat if you press the continue button it will give you the option to 'continue without booking seats'. It appears their system works like this so most people do not realise and just pay up and book a seat, it appears they got you with it.

I use flybe regularly, living in Jersey they are the cheaper option to the mainland, or they were until they added the debit/credit card charge upon checkout, it's now easier to fly BA as it works out the same price.

It's often very similar price now between the 'cheapies' and the main airlines for pppular times, always worth checking now.
