Once upon a time pH was a land of helpful folk who would oft join in banter and japery about cars and such. It was a good and friendly place.
However I have noticed more and more the emergence of the "know better than you" approach. It's just a little more hostile and one up man-ish (or up woman- ish) than of old.

I realise tone is tricky to get into postings but it has become less appealing to contribute.

It's not all newbies but there are more keyboard warriors of late.

Just an observation.

You're not alone in that observation. Just don't get involved in it, PH still offers a lot even if you stay out of the "kudos wars".

It happens everywhere on the Internet, aside from a few "characters" I think PH suffers a lot less than most other forums I frequent to be honest.

Maybe it's localised to the sections you read more than the ones I do?

Yes, its shame because it stops people contributing.

There are one or two members who particularly always seem to want to prove how clever they are at the expense of other members.

PH does have a knowitall tendency at times...

..but does anyone here go on the Autocar forum? Everyone hates each other and most of them don't seem to like cars that much.

I think thetapeworm has a point here. There are a few highly opinionated individuals on PH that always push the same Clarkson-esque opinions regardless of what new information or evidence comes out.

It is when two of these "characters" with different opinions go head to head on a thread that the real holier-than-thou stuff comes out.

The trick is to distinguish the genuine guys (i.e. actual car designers, successful racing drivers, etc.) from the wannabes (19 year old hot hatch owner with one track day under his belt).

I agree on the pH suffers less - it was just a view that here is catching up, I also think there are more postings by the less genuine and maybe that the symptoms are spreading?

Could just be I'm tired though!

Any forum has exceptions, but overall, PH seems to me to be less affected than many; there are a few fairly ideologically driven people who post a series of threads slagging a particular brand. However, I have often posted queries here and it is amazing just how much knowledge and experience exists here.

anyone else find it a bit ironic that the majority of those commenting have a small post count, or reasonably new?

PH is still a great place to waste the hours, and its threads like snowy slopes one about his father, and seeing most of the ph regulars offer to help in any way, that make me know that ph hasnt really changed that much, for sure we get the odd troll, along with the odd new liebour infester but ive not seen anything thus far on ph that would stop me posting.

if you see something you dont like, ignore it, dont carry on reading the thing thats annoying you and go and enjoy many of the other 800 threads or so that are created on ph every day.

It's when 'opinion' is disguised as 'knowledge' in some forums that it winds me up.
People come here hoping for advice and get chancers pretending to know stuff.....
Dangerous, sometimes.

I find most of them seem to be from the 'Hammond Crash' era, when PH was publicised on the TV 'cos of the Air Ambulance Just Giving Page...

I don't think it was any different when I started posting on PH a few years ago. There always was BS but had good stuff here & there. As membership has grown there is more BS but more useful stuff too.
