Help with new product idea

Myself and a fellow PHer have come up with product idea that we want to take to sample/prototype stage, but unfortunately given the nature of the product the idea will need protecting before it can be discussed openly.

I was wondering if anyone has experience printing thermochromic dyes/pigments onto vinyl/pvc/pe.

Also, what are the design limitations with thermochromic printing - are you restricted to a single colour, or is it possible to print semi-complex designs?

Thanks, read that earlier, I was really after real world experience/knowledge as opposed to the theory.

What is the application, I.e. Is it for a product that will come into contact with people, food or animals, etc?

To be honest the application is fairly neutral, people at a push, but nothing that should cause any regs to come into play.
