I'm a bit of a country bumpkin but today used my new oyster card for the first time, I had an interview near bank.

At Waterloo I went down the steps by platform 19, walked through the ticket hall a bit then turned left downstairs to W&C. I beeped in at the top of the stairs. At Bank put my card at the barrier and it let me out all fine and dandy.

Now on the way back, used my card again on the barriers at bank. all fine, until I get to Waterloo on the return.

Get off the train and go up some stairs, at the end you can turn left or right. I chose right and was presented with some ticket barriers, try to get out with oyster and it wouldn't let me.. So I walked back a bit, took the card out of the holder and tried again. This time it went green and let me through.

Should I be worried about getting a big charge somewhere? Or was the fact the card was in the holder first time the likely issue?

Shouldnt be an issue, mine never used to pick up first time. Those ikea holders are a bit ste really, I keep mine in my wallet now and never have a problem.

All the best for the interview, how do you think it went?

My only concern is that the barrier let me into the underground tunnel beneath the train platforms, and I didn't have to go through another barrier to get on my train.

I thought it went really well thanks.. so with any luck I'll have the chance to get used to this Oyster malarky!

Good stuff : )
Yeh Im sure one set of exits out of the W&C line have no barrier as such. You have to swipe the card on the yellow reader on the wall! Miss that and they may charge a penalty fair. I cant be sure of that as I dont use that line often.
