What Can be Flown without a Licence

"SSDR" (Single Seat De Regulated) ((Below 115kg)) no airworthiness certs or regulations although you will need a licence NPPL (M) to fly

There are routes into the air without training although probably not very clever :-)

i am keen, and i will!!!

currently saving my pennies for a mosquito microlight heli and lessons to get the correct licence to fly it

but in the meantime, i wouldn't mind flying a FLPHG back and forth on the daily commute

No licence required for powered foot-launched aircraft AFAIK (although they are no longer exempt from the ANO). You do not need a licence to fly a glider in the UK but it is impossible to do by oneself so everyone takes advantage of the excellent (effectively free) tuition at clubs and abides by the BGA rules/licencing scheme.

Yes. Which means only Jump Jet Fanny and her Hawker-Siddeley propulsion unit qualify.

well the mosquito helicopter im after comes in at 141kg... im sure some weight saving could be done to bring it under the 115kg barrier

mabe a different engine?

Um...have the LAA/BMAA/whichever-organisation-will-be-assisting-in-your-AAIB-report actually signed off this thing?

i have no intentions of getting myself killed, and plan to get an NPPL(H) <-- if that doesnt exist, then ill just get the PPL(H)

yes it will take about 60hrs, and a shedload of money but im in no rush.

i just like the thought of buying a single seat helicopter for the price of a Hot Hatch

but prior to that little dream thats many years away... i'd really like to get into the sky as cheaply and conveniently as possible

Oooh, that looks like fun. There's quite a bit of paragliding that goes on near us. I think I shall go and have a chat with the guys who are doing it. It's something I've always fancied having a go at.

I've played about with friend's kites a few times, I'm still getting up to speed before I dare to strap a board to my feet. The power in those things is phenomenal! Even smaller kites on a not particularly windy day certainly need a bit of care!

We fly low often but NOT in cities like them boys Doing this in the UK; the CAA would have a dickie fit

Nothing better than a evening flight cruising 10ft down long open streches of fields at folk....the look on the faces....priceless

Best flight so far for me was Llandudno; taken off from the orme (bear in mind this is a fair weather sport) max 5kts wind, clear sunny day...off we went cruising down the prom, then off down conwy beach followed by a flight around conwy mountain

If you get chance....do it!

Paragliding is all well and good but the risks involved for me, steered me away. I did train as a paraglider pilot first obtaining my CPL but as you are aware, rotor on hills, thermal activity, all of which can induce collapses...and the fact everyone else fighting for the same space to get lift.....no thanks.

That is why i went for paramotoring, no need for wind as you provide that , fly first thing or late evening when thermal activity has calmed down....

Respect mother nature and the rewards are breath taking.....but you know that

It does sound great. A friend does a bit of paramotoring, so I think I'll go and have a chat with him about it. I'm more used to expensive things made of metal, but I'm thoroughly fed up with having to pay through the nose just to get airbourne for fun rather than work, so this seems like a cracking way of getting up without being crippled by the cost.

How much roughly does a rig generally cost new?

You can get a rig anywhere between 3k S/H and 7k new...
I fly a Parajet Macro, excellent machine, very robust and excellent after sales service.

As said above you can glide without a licence but then you need a glider, with insurance and CofA etc, and nobody will launch you from their club if they don't know you..

How fast can you go? Not very fast obviously, but what sort of ball park? The link you give states a endurance of up to 3 hours; do you actually stay up that long?
