Bloke pulls out, chases, apologises
Discussion
Chap pulled out on me tonight. It was at slow speed and as nothing was coming the other way I passed on the wrong side of the road giving him a wave as if to say 'hello I'm here'. To be honest, it was slow speed and I had passed in seconds, he noticed me in the end, no harm done.
Anyway, I hear a shout from the car (couldn't make out what was said) and carried on my way. It's then I notice that the car is behind me, so I take the next left to try and avoid the confrontation.....he follows.
Now i'm expecting trouble and he's beeping me too, so I pull onto the pavement at the next junction and he shouts at me through the passenger window.
Over I go to say 'what was that?' as I still couldn't hear (I admit I'm ready for a bit of shouty) and he says 'sorry, I didn't see you back there....'
I say 'OK, so why did you just follow me beeping?'
He replied 'I ride too and I wanted to say sorry'
I said 'very kind of you' and went on my way. That said, when a car follows you beeping and shouting you expect the worst. I was expecting abuse so my guard was up. His comments were unexpected to say the least.
Fair play to you sir, it was decent of you but you did give the impression of an angry driver and I thought you were chasing me to have a go!
That is all.

It happens occasionally. I was overtaken far too closely by one guy, who saw me shaking the coffee beans in his rear view mirror. When I got to the lights half a mile ahead, he was still there, and as I filtered up the inside (giving him my meanest glare) he wound the window down and apologised.
I almost fell off the bike in shock. I told him "fair play, no problem", and everyone was happy. Apologising really helps.

I had a bus driver practically in tears when he changed lane into a lane I was already in and I asked why he hadn't seen me in my high viz with lights on. Turned out he was a scooter rider and was very aware of that kind of danger and he couldn't believe he had let his standards slip. I had to persuade him it was alright no harm done, don't do again!
