Hi all,

Just building up my new mountain bike (on-one inbred) and today i received a Shimano Hone rear derailleur which i bought from ebay. Annoyingly it is missing the bolt which goes through the top of the mech and into the frame. I mean this is the actual bolt which holds the derailleur to the frame. I want to get this bike built asap so am looking for the correct bolt to buy so I can get it fitted. I have seen this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?Mod... but I am not sure if it is the bolt i need? If anyone can confirm that would be great.

Cheers.

The best way to resolve this I'm afraid is to take your rear mech to a bike shop and try as many rear mech bolts until you find the one that fits your mech. Based on your explanation the shimano model you have doesn't appear to be the one in the link. Shimano have many many different types of rear mechs, each may have a slightly different bolt dimension. Getting the wrong size bolt may result in the mech "flapping" around so much that, in a worst case scenario, the indexing won't work! I know Campag have a number of parts manuals online, maybe shimano do as well, so you can at least get a part number. Good Luck

Shimano Hone, as far as I can remember, mounts directly to the extended solid axles section of its counterpart Hone Hub, exactly like M800 Saint groupset did.

In which case, unless you have a Hone or Saint hub, you've bought the wrong derrailleur.

Buy SLX instead.
