you should be able to get plenty of apple computing for that budget - might even get you a black roll neck with the change left over

A Vaio Z13 would fit your bill perfectly and is a lovely piece of kit. If you want to save a bit, look at the Dell Adamo, it's hard to believe it's a Dell! wink

Firstly. Never just use a laptop to store photos. Make sure you have at least two other backups if everythingsmile

As for the laptop, do a seRch for kobalt computers, at this price range, by far the best laptops bar none

Also, from your description it sounds like yu are spending way way too much on a laptop. That sort of money buys gaming laptops

Why such a large budget?

You could easily get something that fits your needs for £600 unless I am missing something that you need it for?

4GB of RAM with 32bit windows is pointless.

Quadro cards are designed for CAD, while they will play games, not ideal.

You don't give a price.

Thanks for the ideas guys.really useful The budget is as big as I figured that's roughly what it would cost for a decent one.

Just remember the depreciation of laptops I'd not like cars. It's 100% over 5 yearssmile

If it's just for pictures then your budget should be 500max

With that budget, then a high level Thinkpad would be the best choice. Best quality machine, great support and lots of options.

17" starts at £1899 which only gets you 4gb ram and much inferior GPU and an i5 processor :/

£2539 with the same CPU as the vaio and decent ram. ridiculous prices.

for a grand, that vaio mentioned before looks good.if you can afford £1.5k or more then i'd go for a specialist laptop maker such as Kobalt Computers : http://www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/notebooks.html
