Hi Andy,

We have seen several X-type est. this year all popping the tailgate glass when the ign. is turned to on or even off as the engine is shut down, all have been caused by the tailgate switch under the rear wiper arm, an easy fix with a few tools to replace with new one from Jag.

Regards

Dan

Oops.

Dealer: 'It needs a new module, £600. What's the question?'

Andy,

Around £60.00 plus vat from Jaguar. No more than an hour to fit.

I think this has happened to every X-type estate owner at some point - me included.

Its caused by water getting into the switch on the tailgate glass.

Some people over on the jaguarforum.co.uk have fixed this for free by stripping the switch, drying it out, then re-assembling with silicone grease or similar to waterproof it.

I have a Jag Xtype estate that has rear lock window problems and having read comments from other readers I have taken out and stripped the rear motor module, with the electric switch and motor activator that opens the lock. All clean and OK. Checked the wiring for any chaffing and all seems ok. Strange thing is that IF I close the doors internally using the central locking BEFORE I turn the ignotion/ engine then there is no problem. The problem occurs if the central locking is not activated. I really would appreciate any other readers considered comments as this has baffled me! Thanks
