IDE bus connection
Discussion
I am upgrading the home PC, installing 2 brand-new Hard-Disks and Windows 7. My Current HDD and the DVD drive are on one cable from the same MB socket, marked IDE 1.
If I use the IDE 1, IDE 2 and IDE 3 sockets to connect the above drives with three cables, does it matter which drive is on which socket? I will want to boot from the DVD first time I switch on to run Windows 7 install, if that makes any difference (I believe it is currently set to do this in the BIOS)
Thanks

Very good example/ explanation, and an easy-on-the-eye-to-understand table and diagrams, which is nice.
ETA: (my post seems a tad sarcastic.)
If all three devices are on their own cables, then boot order is indeed arranged within BIOS. If sharing, one has to be set to Primary, and t'uther set to Secondary.
