I'm glad someone still shows some respect. A idoit in my office started to moan, whilst everyone else was silent, because it was raining again.

Very nice touch from the website hopefully other large websites will follow suit next year.

Well done.

Glad to say I missed that as I was outside in the cold and rain on parade reflecting on more important things.

Surely those who saw the message weren't really observing the '2 minute silence' properly. It's about remembering, not just surfing PH quietly! I'm sure there are a number of people who, like me, didn't see the notice because we were in quiet contemplation, not surfing the web at that point!

Maybe those who saw the message on the screen took that as the start of their 2 minutes? I was on the BBC looking at photographs about 5 minutes before the silence. It really brings it all home.

Worst claptrap of political correctness.

It's been poppy MONTH this year.

What I fail to understand is the connection between the millions of DEAD soldiers from WW1 WW2 etc and the real LIVE soldiers being sent out to Afghanistan. THEY are the ones I'm concerned about and a couple of minutes silence is a pitifully inadequate substitute for addressing the real issues.

[For the avoidance of doubt I am always happy to support the work of British Legion}

The shutdown was a few seconds early though.

I tried posting a rushed message before the gongs and saw the message.

Yup same here, I was surfing and lost track of time, the tribute reminded me and I duly obliged to the silence.

Always have done.

The 2 min silence on Rememberance Sunday is generally only observed if you are in a parade.
