Ash cloud and Alitalia - anyone getting anywhere?

Hi,

We;ve finnaly had a compensation offer from Alitalia but for a small amount. Apparantly this is becuase of "policy". Ie it is not our policy to pay for more than 2 nights (we were stuck 5) or alternative transport (we got a ferry). So, by implication, after 2 days your on your own.

Should I take it? What arguments could I put to them?
