My brother saw a 32" samsung lcd for £230. His argument is to buy cheap and buy often, as tv technology changes so fast. I've not seen it yet. But I'd prefer to go for something like the panasonic L32D25, but thats £650. Is the panny really 3 times better. Also if I bought the samaung, it would be bought already knowing that its out of date, hence the price. Its for my bedroom, so please no plasmas. If only.

Panny 37X20 - you'll not be worrying about TV tech for the next 3-5 years, and it'll be the best display for both purposes you've mentioned.
At in between the figures mentioned, it's practically a no-brainer.

So how does the spec levels of the different models vary.
I've seen an S20 - poverty spec I think.
There is also a X20 and a G20 and the D25 is best I believe.

If I go x20 instead of d25, what do I loose?

Ok, so I've had a butchers at the specs.
X20 is lowest - 50hz, HD Ready
S20 - 100hz, FullHD
G20 - same plus more.
So I assume the D25 is the newest model with LED backlighting.
I also assume there will be an equivalent X25, S25, etc?

S20 Would be plenty imho.

They did a test on the gadget show re expensive displays vs "cheaper" (non-budget brands though, think cheaper Philips range).
They could see a difference but deemed it wasn't worth paying double or triple for a top range.

I'm the same as your brother, but I won't say "cheap", I just would never pay for top-of-the-range, latest new tech.

When I said X20, I meant the Plasma one, not LCD.
Panny LCDs are good, but Plasma is still king.

Probably guys that have seen a lot more consumer electronics and TV's than most people on here, so I'll take their advice.

Magazines that accept advertising revenue - nearly everyone of them on the shelves - have politics at play.
And that's even before you get to how competent the reviewer is, and his knowledge/understanding of setting the set up correctly.
If you want to delude yourself that that's the best advice to go on, then carry on - but hopefully not with eyes wide shut any more.

If size and budget are increasing, then you've just nailed the jackpot there.
Get it bought, and get on with fragging the little kiddies in Black Ops, GoW2, etc.

The 37EX503 is currently £579.99 on Amazon (and on play.com) and Sony are running a 'VAT back' offer (until Xmas) that refunds you £86.38 so final price is only £493.61 . Amazon are also offering the 32EX503 at £466.61 and the Sony VAT offer applies.

A great tele and is very impressive when connecting my Samsung R580 laptop with a HDMI cable. The Sony and the Samsung automatically set themselves in 1920x1080 and 1080p. Great for watching iplayer, etc.
