This might sound stupid, but if I plug my Logitec computer speakers via the jack into the headphone input in my TV, will sound output through the speakers? Will it break anything?

And before anyone says "just try it dhead", I wanted to ask first in case I am at risk of damaging anything by plugging something into my TV that should not be there!

It will be fine, the headphone output will be "higher" than the line level they are supposed to be used with, so make sure the volume on the speakers is down low, or it will distort and may damage the speakers.

A better bet would be to use the line level outputs on the back, though you will probably lose the ability to control the volume from the remote.

Cheers.

They are Logitec X210 speakers and sub, so are pretty basic and I think my controls are limited to volume up or down on a little scrolling controller!

Hoping I can adjust the sub-level so it does not shake the foundations of the house.

Speaker quality is the major downside to flat screen tellys so anything external is going to improve the sound quality - particularly if you have a separate sub as well.

An alternative option is to look out for a half decent amp and HiFi speakers from one of those Cash Converter type places (or if you have the budget, Richer Sounds will sort you something suitable) and hook up the stereo output from the TV to that.
