Anyone know much about diecast aircraft?

I thought I might gather a few, select 1:72 and 1:144 miltary jets for a display case at home. It may even lead to a bit of a collection.

I have one Corgi Aviation Archive model at present (a 1:144 Vulcan) and the quality and detail is ok. What other manufacturers are there, how does the quality, detail and price compare and any good UK supplier suggestions?

Thanks, smile

I had a brochure sent through the other day and it mentioned tradewinds as a brand of die cast planes. They may be more of a toy. Worth a look. I deal with a company that supplies a lot of die cast planes. If you need the names of more suppliers I can have a look for you tomorrow

HM - Hobbymaster, Witty Wings and Century Wings - all to be found at

Good selections from these manufacturers and miles ahead of Corgi.

Agreed. Witty and Hobbymaster are miles head of Corgi. And most of the time , cheaper too.

Hi Pete, I started collecting a few months ago, having bought a few models as mementoes for things I've flow and flow in, and it ballooned from there. Corgi's OK but Hobby Master and Witty Wings are better. I use Antics, mostly as I'm fairly regularly in 4 of the towns where they have shops, so it's a good excuse for browsing. They have a good website at www.anticsonline.co.uk. BTW, what's the theme to be of your collection? Mine's RAF, British army and Fleet Aim Arm from 1939.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Will check out the other suggested makes. Not sure about a theme yet. To be honest I saw a large collection of models yesterday and was a bit like a kid in a sweet shop.

How do you guys display yours? Was thinking a glass cabinet may be best, as
I imagine these things collect dust quite nicely.

If you have a few the Ikea "Detolf" cabinets will do the trick. They are reasonabley cheap too.

Mine are all mint never out of boxes apart from 3 - need to get a cabinet sorted out though.

All various scales 1/32 too big to display, 3 x Ju52 in 1/48 again (+others) too big and loads of 1/72 + 1/144 which are Ok. Gemini jets 1:400 (airliners) scale being the smallest I have.

off to IKEA sometime soon.....
