Chaps,

We're in the process of recovering from a break in while on holiday... as such i've ordered an alarm system which should be arriving tomorrow.

I am in the process of installing a new ring main (when I say install I've put the backboxes in the wall and run the cable to all the points and back to the fuse box ready for a sparky to terminate. Can a fused spur be installed directly into the ring main eg. as an extra point in the chain - easy enough to do as I can still take the plasterboard off and pull through more cable. Or does it need to spur off the back of one of the sockets that will be in the ring?

The sparky will be doing all the electricals bits i'm just doing the donkey work!

Thanks,
Phill

Yes it can be part of a ring main.

That makes things a bit easier then! I'll have a look tomorrow when the alarm system arrives to work out where is best to install everything.

What alarm are you putting in, out of interest?

Are you taking the feed from the fused spur directly to the door handles to electrocute the fooking little scrotes if they try to break in again?biggrin

If its for an alarm a dedicated circuit will be a better option.
