Does the back cover off a 3gs fit a 3g?

My back cover is badly scratched and I have found someone selling a genuine one but its from a 3gs.

Don't see why it wouldn't, the shell is identical on each phone

I wonder if anyone would do this and then try to pass off a 3G as a 3GS on Ebay, for example.
