On the strange requests that come through here.

I need your help, PH! biggrin

My Dad has always wanted a tomb stone for our Garden, more as a conversation starter than anything.

So, i'd like to get my hands on one, either no longer needed (Not sure how that works) or with a mistake on or something (Extra points for slightly broken one) as i can't afford a brand new one that costs £800+. Death's a pricey business!

So, any tips on where to get these stone marvels from? I've tried the local stone masons, but for some reason, i just got funny looks!

Anyone got a relative that hung on longer than expected?

ideally, i'm looking for something that would usually be thrown out, so i can just offer a bit of money for it, but any suggestions welcome at this stage biggrin

Just visit your local church, they usually have loads just sitting around in the surrounding gardens.

for an old one, an architectural salvage place? lots of old churches get 'decommissioned'

His garden must be pretty dire to need a tombstone as a conversation starter.

OK
If you really must, how about getting one with all of your dads details on except the date. (then just fill the date when it comes)
That way he will get to keep it forever.

i did ask one of the local ones that has quite a few lying around. Apparently they're not allowed to be given away. They never seem to go anywhere though

Could you not put in an "expected" date for added comedy effect? hehe

Would a Halloween prop be sufficient? Does it actually need to be a real tombstone?

I'm not. he wants it to just look weathered over time, the content isn't important.

Why not take him to do something interesting so he has something to talk about instead of a tomb stone.
