I'm about to do my floors downstairs and have a few worries i am unable to answer. Very confident about laying, cutting etc.

Floor is 14mm 3 strip with 3mm top layer.

Should i do a floor screed over my existing concrete floor, it is not perfect, there are occasional dips and humps maybe upto 4mm.

Problem with a floor screed is that if the highest point is 4mm above then if i wanted a 3mm screed i would end up with a 7mm total depth! Over 70m2 thats not funny!

Or should i simply use some feather edge floor screed and gently take out the humps, making them not quite so abrupt (not that they are even visible to the eye). (when i say floor screed i mean the latex self leveling).

What underlay, some of the crappy looking fibreboard claims it will insulate, deaden, and take out imperfections upto 4mm, i would obviously need to put a dpm under though.

Door bars- why do i need them? floor is matching throughout, there will be a gap around the whole floor of 12mm, i really don't want door bars.
