Just been out with a sweeping brush, took 2 secs to clear the roof smile
I agree with the OP that people should be pulled for this. But your post sent a paint-scraping shiver down my spine!
T'was a brush with soft bristles mate, and I was brushing very, very lightly smile

Seen an unmarked cop car. Snow on the roof and the passenger window had still to be deiced. Driving past the local police car park I would say over 50% of the civic cars had snow on the roof.

Does this mean if it's snowing hard & your driving you have to keep stopping to clear the roof?scratchchin
I would hope common sence would be taken into account in that case. So don't do it in Norfolk. wink

Used to see this all the time in the States. The biggest offenders seemed to be minivans and the larger SUVs due to people being unable to reach the roof to clean it off.

It only really seemed to be an issue when merging onto the highway - as someone mentioned when the air gets under it chunks fly off behind.

If people clear their roofs. What's going to land on my screen so I can clear the salt off? The washer jets freeze up apparently with moisture from the air. I need that snow hitting the screen!

So, will the coppers also fine people for driving with fogs unnecessarily, tailgating or with only one headlight working? Nope, none of this will be enforced.

Saw a car yesterday pull up at a junction and a ton of snow came off the roof and totally blocked the windscreen. Chap got out and cleared it, no problem, but might not have been so lucky if he had been breaking on a motorway/busy road.

Havent they got better things to do!!
Honest people just trying to get to work get TAXED £60 and 3 points,The motorist gets HUMPED AGAIN..

Why dont we all just go on benifit and then there will be no need to leave the house and we can watch SKY tv all day......and as we wont have any money to pay the £60 tax they will leave us alone.

Wish the police would do what i pay them to do catch bloody criminals,,whats of more concern? catching some junky breaking in to your house ransacking it and stealing your posessions or someone driving with a snowflake on there roof........ Ahh but they wouldnt get the £60 tax they would have to put in some work!!!

I can see the logic, and It is annoying when snow falls off the car in front....but COME ON!! A fine and points is too excessive. People are just trying to get to work... The police should just give words of advice in these "rare" conditions.

This is a brilliant idea, even if it isn't true.

The sensible people will have already cleared their roofs so for them it isn't an issue.

The idiots (who are winning) with snow on the roof, will get worried about the potential consequences of a fine and actually do something about the state of their vehicles.

umm no its not ANNOYING- its deadly.

Switzerland (and probably the rest of Alpine countries) have specific draconian laws for driving with snow on your roof.

Reason- well people are killed with alarmingly often by cars with snow on the roof. What tends to happen is that the car drives too fast for the conditions, someone crosses the road, car does emergency brake from 40. The 1 tonne of snow on the cars roof then slides forward at 40mph and seriously injures the pedestrian.

In lesser cases, snow coming off hte vehicle can cause huge problems for cars behind, and huge "ski jumps" of snow can be very dangerous for cyclists and motorcyclists.
