I think it would have to be felt.

Take a can of halfords grey primer and spray it from a distance at the model - the paint will dry before it hits the surface (the absolute opposite of what you should be doing!) creating a sandpaper-like texture that is a dead ringer for scale carpet. The more you build it up, the better the effect.

This is a (not very good photo) of an F1 car seat I did Halfords primer

the spray looks fairly good

has anyone heard of using flocking powder over wet paint or glue...the idea is use matt paint in the colour you want then dose on some flocking powder , once dry shake off the excess

Hobbycraft do A4 sizes of felt in lots of colours & can be bought in singles for around 70p & is very good for replicating carpet.

The usual way of recreating carpet in models is flocking.

Brilliant link. Knew of it, (or similar one), but couldn't find it. Many thanks.

I have 'flocked' a few bit on my models. Its not perfect but still looks goot. Done seats, made custom floor mats and a boot build.

The seats above were my 1st attempt so nowhere near perfect.
