After our enjoyable stint in Gatwick due to volcanoes, we are no completely stuck.
Holiday cancelled, found a hotel, at reasonable price. Trouble is our car is stuck at Russ Hill, completely impassable apparently, taxi drivers just laugh. Could be stuck for days more potentially.
Anything we can do? Would the AA be able to assist in getting our car back out?

Suggestions please, can't afford to live in a hotel until i can get the car back.

Russ Hill Hotel is less than 2 miles from Gatwick, can't you walk to collect the car?

Where exactly are you and where exactly is your car? Is it at the Russ hill hotel? If it's there I assume someone is keeping the access to the car park clear.

Which taxi drivers refused to take you? if it was the airport 'checker cars' they're just refusing because it's a short journey and they want something longer.

1. Find out from someone in Russ Hill (or where your car is) if the roads are actually impassable/ if your car is actually snowed in. I assume it isn't just parked by the roadside.

2. Call a local taxi firm like Carline 01293 430430 or DSM. 01293820820

Added to El stovey's questions, what type of car is it?

I'm about 2 miles from Russ Hill, but no idea if it is passable now. I've got a Disco, we could have a look around lunch time tomorrow, if that's any use?

Yes it's parked at the hotel. It was the hotel that said it was impassable.

3.3 miles an hour in good conditions is normal walking speed, let's knock off a bit for some snow. Your car is 2 hours away or quite a bit closer if you can communicate to a taxi driver that you need to get as close as he can to your car. Jeeez!

If a place is "completely impassable", how will walking to the car help? Once you get there, won't you have to drive it through somewhere completely impassable? And how will the AA be able to help? I'm not sure they have skidoos in this country smile

The road may not be quite that bad, but if it is, I'd suggest you might just have to wait.

If you need to get elsewhere, perhaps hire a car from somewhere and get the AA to pick your car up when the snow's cleared. And claim on your travel insurance or something?

Should't be completely impassable now - I was out and out yesterday around Charlwood and major roads were fine, hotel drive would just need a bit of care I'd have thought.

Plus lots of snow melted overnight and now a balmy 4C at only 10am so can't see anybody being stuck any longer.

The AA won't pick up a car that's in working order.

Thanks for the info guys, managed to get car back Friday around lunch.
Road looked terrible but actually wasn't that bad, i guess that buses and taxis wouldn't risk it more H&S issues.
(Or maybe i'm a snow driving god, which i think is probably quite unlikely).

Edited to add: Especially big thanks to Deeen for his offer of assistance!
