Yep all standard stuff, the 'drifting' is done on the car side with guide blades that turn through 360 degrees.
I'm not digital and personally don't feel I'm missing anything, just go for the biggest set budget allows, you get more kit for your money in sets.

Drift kings is a small layout, you'd be best looking at c1254 which is the new James bond set, you get a nice themed set, two decent cars plus a quite interesting/large track layout for the dosh (£95)

The other option is the c1255 extreme gt, this comes with a decent jag and viper and a shed load of track, however this is more money (140).

I'd only consider digital if you have >£200 to spend, otherwise you'll be stuck with the c1256 digital lane change set (which has a plain rectangular track) or the c1223 triple cup set, which has 3 cars but minimal track.

seen drift kings for £50 on play which made me think of that one to start with as it seems a bargain! maybe get bond and that as it would be a fair amount of track then.

Drift Kings is a good basic set, that'll give you and your son alot of laughs. I think the sliding cars and the fact that you can crash them aswell will keep your lad happy.

If you can get it for £50, then that's a bargain!

Hope you have fun with it!!

seen a couple on ebay which are older sets but new in box from a local model shop which are f1 with huge amounts of track and a le mans 24hr which seems to have a lot of track and both come with lap counters for about £125 each which seemed a good deal.

Good man, you can always add to it more, buy new cars etc

In the future you can convert it to digital aswell, even more fun!

The problem with F1, especially if racing with youngsters, is that the cars are a bit fragile and are easily broken. Scalextric do have some nice cars in their range, but for fun when racing with youngsters/novices, where the cars are definitely going to spend as much time off the track as on, you could do a lot worse than invest in a few of the super resistant cars. They're just as fast as anything else, but will withstand bumps and knocks a lot better.

Digital really comes in to it's own when you start racing with Race Management Software, which keeps track of your laps, lap times, and fuel etc. Nothing worse than leading a race by a country mile and then losing near the end because you forgot to refuel in all the excitement and you run out of fuel.

If you do go digital - hobbycraft have the cooper challenge for £99 so gives you a digital move for cheap..

Upgrades are usually cheaper to buy as a set... I started off with digital triples and the cooper challenge set with a few extra bits and pieces from ebay ;-)

You can now get the updated basic digital set for the same price, comes with a Porsche and a DBS I think.

If you PM Fun bobby i can point you in the direction of some good priced super resistant twin packs.

ETA, ok maybe not £99, but not bad - http://www.megamodelshop.co.uk/c1256-scalextric-di...

Hi

Check out the British Slot Car Racing Association website for more info and clubs near you.

Depending on where in Herts you are there are BSCRA clubs at Luton and Finchley and I think there are also Scalex clubs nearby - all of them will make you welcome.

Best Rob

Yea Armco barriers clip straight on. Much easier than using the newer sport borders and barriers.

What you go for in the end?

The newer barriers do allow for better tail sliding as they make the track wider. Better when you remove the magnets wink

I agree, I just tend to use the classic barriers on elevated sections etc where you can use the borders. But It does get expensive buying borders and barriers for all corners, If you don't want to spend too much just grab some of the classic barriers and put them on your rad 1 and 2 bends.

I've got some Fly cars, still in boxes from the 90's. They're superb quality and stick to the track much better than the standard Scalextrics cars.
