What an absolute joke. I've just listened to a Muslim suggesting that when an animal's throat is slashed during the Halal slaughter process, it is not in pain.

She is frustrated at non-Muslim mis conceptions in relation to their cruelty towards animals.

That should never have been broadcast.

In the sense that she's asserting 'the animals don't feel pain', without any evidence to back that up.

I've cut my fingers with really sharp kitchen knives and it didn't hurt (initially).

Who is to say that in the seconds between the animal's throat being cut and it losing consciousness due to blood loss that it does (or doesn't) feel pain?

I think it's an area upon which 'truth' - in the form of neuroscience - could shine its spotlight. However that's never going to happen where 'faith' is concerned... rolleyes

She should get a Halal Slaughterman's knife and cut herself and see if it hurts or not...simple test but one she will probably never do.
I can see that the Halal slaughter process was in the animals' best interests two thousand odd years ago....but times have moved forward and I think all animals should be stunned first... Islam in this instance is just digging it's heels in and not moving with the times. Logically, if the prophet Mohammed was the kind and wise person he is portrayed as being then I'm sure he would agree on using the most modern, quickest and most painless methods possible and not the traditional Halal Process. The animal can be bled out just as well if it is stunned first and then it's throat cut.

Stands back and awaits a flaming!!

I accept we are very high in the food chain and I love meat, but to still be inflicting such suffering is ridiculous.

They're obviously still brainwashing early on.

People, people! Put DOWN the copies of the Daily Mail and try to think for yourselves for once.

1) Do you have a similar opinion of meat eaten by our more orthadox Jewish cousins? (The Jewish Shechita slaughtering rules are very similar Halal and also require the animal's carotid artery and windpipe to be cut in one swipe of the blade).

2) Do you have any idea what percentage of Halal and Shechita salightering is done in the UK with/without the animal being stunned first? (According to the RSPCA's 2004 figures - 90% with stunning, 10% without).

3) Ever eaten game? Which do you think results in least pain - a single cut designed to kill with a very sharp blade or being shot?

4) Why do you think the number of animals killed in line with Halal rules has increased in the last few years? (It's because MOST animals are killed via stun/cut and a slaughter house following the other Halal rules has a larger potential customer base than one that doesn't).
