Hi all. I had my bike pinched earlier this year and haven't got round to replacing it yet. It was about 10 years old, but was a good one in it's time!

Things have moved on a lot I'm sure and I'm out of knowing what makes/models are good these days.

I'm going to buy second hand (as I don't use it much) but I want a decent bike (XTR spec, etc). Can anyone tell me of an example of good mountain bike from a few years back (£2,000 plus) which will now be a decent price on fleabay etc.

Or any other good buys which I could get?

TIA

Fully?
Trek Fuel EX8, Giant Trance X1 etc would be good targets I think.

Not too bothered about full susp, front would be good but 'lockable' is a must.

The Giant looks a good spec bike, there's one on ebay at the moment, but loads of bids already so looks like it's not gonna go cheap.

Keep the ideas coming guys!

Why lockable, any decent modern bike doesnt need it.

Just for road use, I hated my old bike on the road unless it was locked out. What have they done in modern bikes to change things?

The Trek 8500 came with top spec ali frame, XTR & lockable Fox forks & my 8000 is the same spec apart from XT groupset. Later 8500's & 8000's are down specced to XT & LX respectively (but have updated 'fluid form' frames) - all excellent bikes though.

Alternatively here's a great heavily discounted new bike -

New Kona Kula Deluxe with Scandium frame, Reba forks & XT for £900 - Bargain!:

Suspension doesnt bob under pedling or braking thesedays so doest sap power. leas thats the theory.

I'd still want the option of being able to lock them, might as well have the option? Why not?
