Hello radio-control folk smile

I just cleared a neighbours drive with the manitou and was standing in his garage having a chat. Fella had an radio control truck that he'd lost interest in so gave it to me as a small thank you.

I know very little about them, it's an mta4 apparently, has a transmitter but no glow plug and no body. No manual either. Looks barely used to be honest.

I have a few questions if you would be so kind!

There's a model shop 10 miles from here where I'll be able to get a glow plug, what else do I need? It has a pull-cord starter.

Fuel, obviously, are there different types of nitro fuel?

Will any kind of body (of the right size) fit?

Cheers,
Iain

What a nice neighbour you have! I have a Thunder Tiger TS4N which is an on road car. You will need a starter to plug on to the glow plug, have a look here at this starter kit http://www.esky-heli.com/nitro-gas-car-glow-plug-s...

Im not sure about the body though, you'd have to ask your local model shop.

Thanks!

I stopped in at my local model shop and asked them. I bought some 16% Nitro fuel, a new glow plug and a glow starter.

Can't start it frown

I drained the fuel tank and lines, cleaned the air filter. Put new fuel in and primed the carb. Turned it over a couple of times but slowly pulling the pull-start cord (but I have to wind it back in manually? Is that right?)

If I pull the cord to start it, nothign, not a sausage. The glowplug is definitely heating but there's obviously no fuel getting to the plug.

Any tips? smile

The small holes of the carbs often get clogged with a mixture of old fuel and detiriorating hose. Make sure that these are clean.
Go online, to the TT website and download the manual that will give you the factory settings for the high and low speed mixture screws.
The pull starter should retract, so remove engine, very carefully remove the pull start assembly, and make sure that the one way bearing is doing what it should.
Also, make sure that the bell housing spins freely.

Have you primed the engine with fuel? This is my start sequence for the TS4N.

1. Fill tank with fuel.
2. Turn on transmitter.
3. Making sure the car is turned off locate the servo on the car that opens the throttle and by hand move it so that the throttle opens about a third to a half of the way.
4. Cover the exhaust with something (your finger if you can) and give the start 5/6 pulls. This draws fuel in the engine.
5. Turn the car on! This moves the servo back to the closed position.
6. Attached the glow starter.
7. Now try starting it!

Hope this helps. If it doesnt try again from step 3.
