Afternoon chaps,

I have a Specialised Crosstrail with the slick centred tyres (Tread on the outer parts). Will I end up sliding under a bus if I attempt to ride on these with the snows, slush, and ice? My old bike on knobbly tyres was fine last year, but that's now long gone.

If you want to ride on ice get studded tyres, anything else is an educated gamble. Trouble is, the price for losing can be a broken collarbone.

Your right, it'll probably end in tears.

I came a cropper on Friday - cruising slowly down a slushy road when I realised that under the slush was sheet ice. As the camber of the road got more severe, I thought about turning the front wheel to get nearer the crown of the road and WHAP! Down I went. Luckily, I've taken up Jiu Jitsu and managed a tidy breakfall. Didn't even hurt myself, which I was most surprised about.

Cycling in snow is a bit of a minefield - more often than not it's fine in actualy snow/slush, but the moment there's Ice there, you're screwed.

It's even more fun off road as the big puddles become sheet ice under a layer of snow I did get a good drift turn out of it though.
