I work for a big, but kind of "under the radar" FTSE 100 Company.

No Christmas bonus this year or last year due to us not quite meeting targets nationally. Previously its been around £200 per employee (there's a lot of employees) and while its peanuts it hepled moral and paid for the turkey.

Pay review has been fixed way below inflation for the last 2 years for everyone.

Is this in line with most employers/employees on here? City boys need not reply as I know they are looked after.

When I worked for Sainsburys Xmas bonus was £100 for full time staff, whether in stores or office.
Certain grades qualified for a bonus scheme which was seperate to this. Normally awarded at the year end - March\April in that case.

Some companies have frozen pay, some have set impossible bonus criteria, others are still laying off, be thankful you got any payrise even if it is slowing the decline in your pay's value.

I am thankful but I am also sure that a few employers are using the downturn to their own benefit. Clients still have to pay based on increase in inflation.

I think having a job is the 'bonus' for many these days....

We received a £200 christmas bonus but we haven't had a pay rise for three years now despite continued growth of the company.

Don't think I've ever had a Christmas bonus since I started full time work 20yrs ago - annual pay rises dropped massively in last 3yrs unless you're on a European contract (eg Lux, Germany, Italy etc where there are mandated pay rises)...

We get an annual bonus in March each year, it's dependant upon the company hitting a wide range of targets, financial, safety, customer service etc. If we hit all the targets we normally all get about 3% of our annual salary paid in a lump. It certainly puts a smile on everyone's face! biggrin

We were also mega lucky as just prior to the recesion we agreed a 3 year fixed pay deal, it was meant to be just above the rate of inflation but had a lower limit of 3.5% set, so when the economy was more or less deflating we still got a 3.5% rise!! smile

We paid for it last year though as the deal ran out and we dropped to about 2% I think.

We don't get a Crimbo bonus but everyone gets a contribution to a party or meal which is very generous.

I got a Christmas bonus 10 years ago. I still wear it and it still keeps good time. It's on it's 3rd battery and it's second mechanism. The strap's not original and the glass has been replaced. It looks good for a watch I've worn every day for 10 years. wink

2 years of no pay rises, we getting contracts normalised soon, ie multiple contracts made standard across the board, seems to be a fair bit more than the current offering

apparently we should be happy that we have a job

xmas party was near the office, no consideration for the site teams who would have to either drive a long way and then not drink much as it was held mid week and not say on the friday, plus we had to pay something like £30 for the privilige..

I have worked for a few FTSE 100 companies... 4 to be exact. Bonus varied. From 10% to 40%.

I've always had very little in pay rises from any company. However useful I've made myself. Bonuses on top of bonuses, yes, but pay rises have been insignificant.

So I seem to move companies every 2 years or so for a 10-50% pay increase and a promotion / better job.

I'd rather stick with a company, show some loyalty and be offered promotions and decent pay rises, I'm not sure if it's just IT but it doesn't seem to happen.

You are aware that there's a massive recession just hit?

Yes, it's the norm. If you're disgruntled, try finding another job!

Its the norm in the finance sector of IT too...

I got 2 decent pay rises out of that, one at 33% and then another at 25%.

Nothing until notice on table then HR and boss st themselves and counter the offer... God knows why it needs to be done this way.

Pay rise? biglaugh I seriously can't remember the last time I had an increase in my basic, only time it's changed is when I've changed jobs, negotiate a starting salary and it stays the same for year after year. As for Christmas Bonus, I've never had one in 35 years. I used to get a hamper and often a bottle of champagne. No big issue is it.

I know that scenario well. hehe

Though I don't accept a job elsewhere unless I mean to go and it's all too late by then. Of course, then you have an exit interview and explain that there are certain other strong people they won't want to lose that perhaps they should offer the raise to instead, which they don't... and so the cycle repeats!
