Does anyone know if it’s possible to get a head unit which is smaller in depth than a standard unit? It’s all down to the lack of space behind the slot in the centre console (V8S). I was wondering if you could get a hhead unit without a CD player but have some way of plugging in the i-Pod so it doesn’t need to be as long a normal one. Don't want to spend too much as you can't hear it most of the time anyway!

Not much help from me, but, what's wrong with opening a window, or roof off,
and listen to the V6 music lol.

Concerto for V8's & V6's in Italian tunnels or overture for V8 on a mountain pass is my preferred listening but on those long motorway drags (remember France?) it was great to be able to pass the time listening to the i-Pod. Tinks - I can just about get the current unit in but everything would be much easier if I could find a unit about half the length of a standard one. Then all the wiring crap would fit in comfortably.

The ideal piece of kit would combine a radio with a push in slot for the i-Pod and, for obvious reasons, have an earphone socket. Are you online Santa?

Look for a head unit that has CD changer control but no CD drive as well as the IPod stuff.
I'm looking on www.celstores.com just picked out alpine IDA X311 if you ring them speak to Darren Waddingham if he's there and say I told you to call him biggrin.

If the original unit is working OK in terms of the casette player (that was the best bit of the radio in my S) you could always get one of the casette adaptors and plug an MP3 player (assume ipod is the same) into that. I've got that in the Griff and it works fine - not that the radio doesn't but then the V8 is sound enough ...its good in the S as well though!
Have a good Xmas!

Jim- thanks for the suggestion.

Chris - I spoke to Darren and he's going to email some info to me.

Happy Christmas to you both.

Came across this today at Clas Ohlson

http://www.clasohlson.co.uk/Product/Product.aspx?i...

http://www.clasohlson.co.uk/Product/LargeImageView...

Good value at £34.99 and only 88mm deep, and with a USB & memeory card insert.
It's a bit plasticky so I'll be interested to see what Chris's contact comes up with.

The Clas Ohlson unit looks to be excellent value for a scrooge like me, get rid of the glove box full of CD's and just plug in my MP3 sorted.smile

Great value indeed, although if it has a CD drive I think it will probably be the standard depth to allow for the disc. Do you happen to know if Aldi do a CD-less one?
