Is anyone watching it? It looks back at the childhood of Nigel Slater.

Now if it had been Nigel Planer, I'd have tuned in.

Didn't expect to like it but really enjoyed it in the end. Can see why the book won so many awards.

It also explains why he's a little eccentric but it's also clear he's passionate about his food.

I had to wait until the end credits to realise his step mum was played by Helena B-C . With the Brummie accent I thought it was a well disguised Amanda Holden but didn't look like it in the close ups

I loved it particularly at the end. Not a childhood I would have wanted to be honest.

I never realised he was gay, was that just me or was he in a "passing phase" back then.

Brilliant. Difficult watching in places. Helena Bonham Carter and Ken Stott superb, and a nice touch having the man himself playing the chef right at the end. Nice one BBC.

No he's a fully paid up member , he's confirmed it a few times on various programmes

Have you ever seen one of his cooking programs? He's bent as a 9 bob note.

but he's got a genuine passion for food and is a lot less annoying and pretentious than most of the celeb chef tw*ts on tv eg. Mr Sweary, Mr Fat Tongue, Mr Fish and the fat Yorkshireman who blew his Maserati up on the MM. His book Appetite is an excellent read. I thought the book was better than the film but the film was worth watching for Helena B-C
