Help with Iphone

So I need a bit of help.
My iphone simply has no service.
It's been saying this all afternoon, and randomly lost connection while I was sending a text.

I've checked wi-fi and it's nothing to do with that.

on the settings menu it should say the carrier is 02-UK, it doesn't. Although when I go into the carrier settings it then says i'm on 02-UK. I tried clicking on the other carriers and and also automatic, no luck.

I also compared the settings etc with my dads iPhone, and they are the same, his is working fine.

It's maybe something stupid I've missed, but anyone got any help for me?

try a soft reset..

hold down the power and home button together and wait for the apple logo to appear, release the buttons and let it reboot

Have you tried turning off 3g service in the settings? I find in areas of poor 3g coverage I get no signal at all and have to turn it off.
