Was staying with friends at Menton, on the French/Italian border and nipped over to Ventimiglia to shop at Lidl, as you do. This was around the corner...

Then I stopped at Latte, right on the border, and noticed this...

Can't decide if it was dumped or not.

Yes. It's a light tractor, used for sports grounds and golf courses.
H Pattisson & Co Ltd (of Stanmore, Middlesex) made these from early Ford car components.

From the land that time forgot, Cuba.

Apologies for not getting the make/model! It was just sitting on a street, waiting (I suppose) for the US-Cuba cuddles to get friendly enough to allow it to be sold back to the USA.

close
If it's a Plymouth it would be a Belvedere, 4 door hardtop
Fury was a special model, only available as a 2 door hardtop, in beige and gold (in the book Christine was a special order in red)

in Cuba that'll be patched up with any old engine and running gear to give tourists taxi rides

edit: actually, I think it's a Dodge, headlight surround looks like it

Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler and De Soto were all the same bodywork with slightly different front and rear bodywork

There were so many sort-of-maintained American classics there that I was surprised to see this one like this.

As even a decrepit 25yr old Peugeot 205 sells for $10,000+ out there, I'm sure this one will eventually get some TLC, so perhaps it's not really 'left to die' after all.

I'm well aware that RWD Escorts are highly sought-after for rallying, but why does this not also apply to other similar small rear-drivers of the era? I'm not aware of Vauxhall Vivas or Datsun 120s or whatever being rallied these days, and so their values have remained largely static.
A mate of mine rallies a 2300 Viva quite successfully, and there's quite a Chevette contingent as well. And there's the Can-Am Firenza replica that Jimmy McRae is driving at the moment.
My first car was the best of both, 1972 Viva (in poo-brown) with a RS2000 2.1 pinto, Triumph Dolomite LSD, Jag front suspension and Granada Ghia X interior - looked more or less standard from the kerb aside from some slightly wider wheels. Trouble was at 17 I was stopped by the bib more or less every time I pulled off my parents driveway!
Found this today, the said Viva / my first legal car! Photo was taken about 24 years ago - I have hardly aged since the photo was taken...... wink

These photographs were taken this morning at a yard tucked away behind Manchester Piccadilly, in all I counted around 8 Jags including a couple of XJS one of which was the early convertible, 2 JX40's and 1 XJ coupe in white plus a series1 saloon. There was an early Silver Spur, one Merc w123 280E and a lot of mundane stuff too. Corner of Fairfield Street and Saint Andrews St, it's the territory of ladies of a certain profession, must have been having an easter break!

Ooh, Medler's?! One of my favourite ever places. A friend introduced me to its delights in 1996 and I visited whenever possible (and bought bits) over the next few years. I disregarded any rules they may have had about cameras, though I think I did cause Mrs Medler to get angry about it after a I had load of photos published in a club magazine which someone took with them then left on site....

Luckily Alan the chap who worked there day-to-day said just not to let her catch me at it. I got several hundreded photos there over the years, but if it was in these digital days I'd have taken thousands.

Regarding your special, I think there were several such things there. Sadly I don't think any are in my photos, but the HA ice cream van is:

1980 Datsun Sunny 1.2 Estate (B310), Medler's Scrapyard 1996 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Nissan Micra (K10) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Back on my first visit I was concentrating on the Japanese stuff, but others caught my eye too:

Ford Fairlane, Medler's c.1996 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

1959 Ford Fairlane by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

1965-ish Oldsmobile at Medler's Scrapyard by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

1980 Datsun Bluebird SSS Coupe by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

/\ I had the 5-speed 'box out of this one for my 180B. The wall of cars behind was the edge of the official bit of the yard, but perilously crawling through them revealed a load more in the woods:

Medlers Assortment 1998 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

An incredible place. My album here, ought to do some more/better scans one day: https://www.flickr.com/photos/7430965@N05/sets/721...
What is that Nissan you have on the cover picture of Flickr? I had an extremely fun night about '87 finding out about tail-happiness in a coupe one of these.

Hmmm, I'm not sure which one comes up there? My 1980 Laurel is the one I have as a banner thing across the top of the screen, that only came here as a saloon but the 240K GT was effectively its coupe sister. If you hunt around my Datsun/Nissan albums on there chances are you'll find a photo of what you had fun in :-)

Having just looked through on this flicker album the thing that strikes me is the diversity of model range that came from the emerging Japanese market. Fastbacks, saloons, estates & other futuristic options at a time when the difference between an L and a GL for a Ford was one wing mirror or two! There really was some mould breaking stuff, many sold in relatively small numbers and easy to see why values on 70's Japanese are now so strong.
Unfortunately the whole place has been emptied a few years back when the government got strict on scrap yards and the way oil and fluids were disposed of! In which in medlars was just emptied on the floor! A few cars still remain over the other field and the fire engine is still placed in its usual place.
