Well, it's certainly a classic that's been left to die and rot, but the seller is being a little overoptimistic with the starting price. I think that it's likely to disintegrate even if it could be moved.

It's scrap, but there's a BMW 502 parked next to it. Wonder if it's the 2.6 or 3.2 V8?
The registration (of the Consul Capri) alone is probably worth that much.

Are you saying that in this case that would not be possible? If so, please explain why, as I haven't studied the finer points of registration transfers.

One of the principles is that the car and its registration had to be on the DVLA radar recently. This was one of the reasons behind the SORN. It's no good finding a wreck with a valuable plate and renovating it to MoT standard with the hope of transferring the plate if it doesn't appear in their records.

If you could do that, believe me, we would all be doing it. From the DVLA's perspective it was a problem of Where will this stop?

There was an Austin 7 in the woods near where I grew up and I bet it's still there. But there's no possibility of anyone claiming the registration.

It states the car has a V5....so DVLA have computerised records of it.

Even in the absence of the above DVLA would I expect allow the number to remain on the car on a 'non transferable' basis if you could prove it belonged to it - irrespective the cost of restoring that car to a standard that would allow it to be removed or retained would be way too high.

According to the DVLA web site it was last taxed to December 1985. So records of it do still exist.

3x3 numbers plates which are number number number then U & K (and derivatives of) are often used when a car is re-registered. If this is the case, the reg would be non-transferable.

PS: that number plate is only worth a grand on a good day even if you could transfer it.

It needs a valid MOT for a start, or recently failed, as well as recent tax history.

I'm having a right chew at the minute trying to transfer a plate from a Mercedes that is on the road and has been since new.

Only problem is it was un-Sorned about 6 months before I bought it!

What's that, TVR wedge? Immaculate by this thread's standards!

Guessing from Jumbo's slightly cryptic comment it's a SEAC, so quite a special wedge.

A spotless car in a very clean and obviously used garage. Do you come from Planet OCD?

Not sure if I can spot any classics among this lot, but they've certainly been left to rot...

Currently situated in a field near the Dai-Ichi ex-nuclear plant in Fukushima, Japan. Owners are unsurprisingly unwilling to take them back!

Isn't it one of these, an Austin A40 or A50 Cambridge (depending on the engine size). Also made under licence by Nissan.
Christ, what a miserable looking thing they were. The Mark 1 Consul was 1000 times better looking.
Sorry for late post, have been working my way through the thread! I fully agree. This was my girlfriend's car in the late 80s, now fully restored (I googled the plate):-

Agreed...not even worthwhile for the plate (which is original, issued in 1963 by Kent), with an 'X' not worth much more than £500 - and you'd have to MOT the car first to get it! I see the auction finished with No Bids..
