Obviously even small tribes in the heart of the Amazon have seen the V8 coffee table idea on Top Gear by now. So what other car related items could you use to make an interesting side table, coffee table, or anything else for that matter?

I was thinking maybe a Lambo alloy as the stand with a circular glass top placed on it. Any other component ideas?

I was in a waiting room of a garage and they had the rear wheel and tyre from an F1 car with glass on top, was pretty cool smile

would anyones wife/partner really let any of us have the house decorated with bits of old car haha. Id have to say though a lot of the seats in old cars are more comfertable than new settees so I wouldnt mind a set of those modified in some way.

been thinking about this too, think it would be good to do if you wrote of a car. To keep a momento like a wheel and make a table.

Suppose you could use nearly anything such as the engine

Made a couple of office chairs out of Fiat Cinquecento Sporting seats 18 months ago.

(Beggars are more comfortable than a normal lounge seat! And way more comfortable than the average office chair.).

Agree, the seats in my dads midget are so comfy, if he scraps I want to take them out first!

the bentley sofa on topgear looks good, although the frame is horrible.

the mini desk is cool, and i remember seeing an opening cabinet made from the nose section of an e-type which was interesting.

this sofa could be good, but again let down by the poor upholstery:

most things made from engine & suspension components [brake clocks, tyre tables, engine block wine racks etc.] just look wk imo.

just occasionally though, someone makes something quite sublime:

I've got a wall mounted sculpture made out of a Ferrari Mondial front luggage hatch and a couple of RR Spirit of Ecstasys . . . . .which are the only car related things allowed in the house, apart from the odd car stored in the kitchen hehe

I am still looking for a damaged or broken 911 engine/crankcase.

My son wants a table for his room.

I have this in my office. It's an early 90s rear F1 slick which I cleaned up, repainted and had some mirror glass cut for the centre. The tyre cost about £25 from the back of Motoring News in about 1993. It just arrived "as was" with gravel, grass, and brake dust stuck all over it and an address label slapped on the side. The postman was a bit surprised to say the least!

A garage near to me has one of those mini desks, looks good.

I've got a brand new 17" MINI alloy and tyre that was given to me by a friends Dad (he wanted a spare when he bought a Cooper S at launch) I've been contemplating turning it into a coffee table or similar. But I think it might look a bit pants.

Have one side of a Suzuki bike clutch as a pen holder on my desk at home, was in a box of parts somewhere a while back; cleaned up, fits pens in the spring holes a treat.

Used to have the back seat of my old Senator built into the base of a wardrobe/built in cupboard on an old sofa base - very comfortable, centre armrest, headrests the lot. Took ages to get it in the right position, lots of bits of twisted wire behind holding it together - the first attempt was slightly too high at the front and cut off the blood flow to your feet after 20mins of watching the telly - second go was just right.

i've made one of those, but used s2000 pistons and rods, a lot more finessed than the original RV8 baked bean can pistons.

I like mine a lot and it invites a lot of comment (i have it in my cinema room)
