S Club Heaven 2011, The Silver Jubilee; 25 years of the S Series
The intent of S Club Heaven 2011 is to build on the success of SCH2010 and continue to widen the appeal of the event. With the first S Series being built in 1986 it has been decided that this years event will be themed on the Silver Jubilee, therefore attendees will be encouraged to reflect this within either the vehicles they are driving or the clothes they are weraing for the Sunday Show aspect of the event. So how will the event be organised this year? Again the team will consist of Myself, Norman Farmer, Jaye Ridley and Gary Smith, all of whom are contactable via the contact us link at the SCH2011 Home Page and any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed, just don't expect all to be acted upon as we must please the majority. Because of this the event will be based on last years successful formula but will be split over the whole of the weekend of 24-26 June 2011. A rough itinery is included below and this will be enhanced as plans firm up although full details will be available first at the home page linked above.
Following the success of camping at Weston Park Stately Home last year it has again been decided to take advantage of their facilities, but this time we will be using the proper camping site as the caravan club are not monopolising the Park this year. Camping will be available on the Friday and Saturday night for those who wish to take advantage. More details on camping is available at the homepage.
Having managed to arrange for access to a runway for SCH2010 it seemed to create a welcome and popular addition to the event. However last year's time was rather curtailed by the requirement to fit around flying clubs at DCAE Cosford and the restriction to quarter mile sprints. Therefore this year access has been arranged for the full day at RAF Shawbury including exclusive use of the runways and taxiways. There are likely to be restrictions beyond that of a normal TVRCC trackday (i.e. numbers of cars on track) but we anticipate this being relaxed enough to ensure wemake full use of the availability. To make this cost effective and allow it to be a TVRCC track and action day (and aid with insurance) this part of SCH2011 is open to owners of all TVR models, but to ensure the insurance covers you it is a requirement that you are a TVRCC member (membership for the single day will be available at a small charge). As details are finalised this will be updated here and on the page linked from the SCH2011 Homepage.
CANCELLED
Due to insurance reasons it has been necessary to cancel the planned track day at RAF Shawbury and replace it with a tour through Snowdonia. This will take the route through Horse Shoe Pass, a route often used by car magazines as a test road. With a scenic outlook the road is definately one for the driver and should make a good tour for the day. Overall the route is approximately 100 miles and will include a stop for lunch at the famous Ponderosa Cafe.
The intention is to leave Weston Park at 1000, stop for and hours for lunch at about 1230 and get back to the Weston Park around 1600 in time to set up for the BBQ
As with last year it is intended that a BBQ will be held on the Saturday evening at the Weston Park Campsite. This will be an informal event with a bit of cook your own and bring your own booze. Again anyone is welcome to attend whether camping or not, although if you arrive while the stately home is open you may be requested to pay the entry fee (campers have free entry to Weston Park, this goes for the Sunday as well).
We have a dedicated area to the front of the Weston Park House where we can show the cars on the Sunday, this area will ensure we have a scenic backdrop, ease of access for entry and exit and be within visual range of the general public who are visiting the house, which will be open to the public when we are there this year. The format will be similar to past year with the well trodden format of a short hoon, prizes, charity fundraising and a raffle.
Following the passing of Ken Appleton (Clarenceboddiger) in late 2010 it was decided that SCH2011 would be dedicated to his memory. As many of you will either have known Ken, would have interacted with him on the forums or would have sought his help with those niggling issues I am sure you will all support the decision to ensure that his memory is kept alive by contributing to a healthy donation to Cancer Research UK, chosen by his widow Janet and the family
With this year marking 25 years of the S Series the prizes this year will be awarded as below:
• Best S1 (2.8 litre), S1.5, S2 (2.9 litre)*
• Best S3 or S4 (2.9 Litre)*
• Best V8S*
• Best in Show (to take account of silver jubilee decoration)
• The ClarenceBoddiger Award
Thebest of prizes will be awarded for Car Quality alone (i.e. not silver jubilee decoration)
The Clarencebodiger Award will be presented to car that the organisers consider to be the best used example rather than the best polished example, i.e. the "Go Car not the Show Car". The Clarenceboddiger Award will be given for the duration of one year and will need to be returned for the following year's event; it is hoped that this prize will be awarded by Ken’s widow, Janet.
