pdf password recovery

A few years ago I sent my boss a sensitive document as a password protected pdf. I now need the document but can't remember the password. The boss is long gone. I have googled for password recovery tools - does anyone have any experience of one that will actually work in this situation? Thanks in advance, Andrew
