I was at work and I got a box:

I opened the box and found:
much better than anything work related, though I am slightly disappointed by the lack of parts in the simplified resin kit.
I think I'll be doing Evan Mackie's plane as I'm too lazy to do any real research and come up my own scheme (though the white Egyptian version looks fun) and don't have the decals for them. Now to find out which of my old paints are still fluid- its about 3 years since I opened any of them :S and then buy some more.

I got to work and did some painting on Sunday. Now I look at the photos it looks far worse than I'm sure it does in real light- you can even see where I've used different blacks to touch bits up. However as when its together you can barely see into the cockpit I don't think I'll bother to fix it.

Seeing as I managed to damage the radiator getting it off its base I'll probably regret not separating the exhausts/wheels before painting as well. It does make them easy to hold though...

I got this far a week or so back but haven't put the photos up yet. Since taking them I've painted the underside and decided I'd go for one last coat (the 3rd) which turns out to have been a bit too thick frown

You can't see most of the mess I made inside fortunately and once the canopys on even less will be visible.

They thought biggles looked a bit young, but let him sign up anyway...

A quick crash later they reconsidered...

The landing gear survived though:

Looking at some of the other efforts I'm definitely getting model envy, I guess i just don't have the skill/patience.

I think your attempts are totally fine. There are three things you need to improve your skills - practice, practice and practice.

what Eric says

Practise is what you need

you have enthusiasm

and the kit

and a pilot

(more than I've got)

You are right there's not a lot to see inside, so carry on and enjoy it

looks fine to me

Aaaah - but was I referring to the noun or the verb?

I'd just add that if you've bought pre-flatted aftermarket tyres, you might as well put the flats at the bottom of the wheels wink

Dammit! I was hoping you wouldn't spot that. They're the academy ones and I don't think they're meant to be pre-flattened- I just made a mess trying to get them (and the exhausts off the damn 'sprue'. Having gone to the trouble of painting (and paid for) them I wanted to use them- hopefully if my plan comes together it won't be that visible/matter anyway.

Aren't they the Resin Art ones? I read a review of their exterior detail kit (flaps, radiator, tailwheel well etc) and the fit was so bad that the reviewer concluded they weren't made for the Academy model! (as I have done for teh interior kit). Glad I made my own flaps and flatted wheels now.

Yes you're right, it was the resin art ones. I've now somehow managed to make the exhaust stubs sort of fit in the slots as well. For the next group build can we pick something with a good resin set (or not bother)?

Extension needed for completion (well unless i get the decals and undercarriage done in the next two hours that is.) It was all on plan but then I seem to have spent most of this month away for work....

This was mine on the deadline:

and a couple more with the decals and undercarriage finish (a month back) and a varnish on it to keep the decals in place (last week)

I love that doors open and folding...

Tucking away before getting up/down to the nitty gritty?

Or just coming home for a relax?

Nice innovative thinking

Nice model too, well done

edit to add

Have a well deserved thumbup

Cheers guys, glad you like it. I might have to try some of the tricks i've learnt with the model Vulcan i'm now going to finish- a mere 4/5years after i started it.
The original idea was that the Tempest was just taking off and skimming the bushes- it seems to be harder to line it up than i was hoping. He also appears to have gone with out the bombs.
