I was chatting to some mates about old TV shows and I mentioned an old black and white series about a pair of fighter pilots. I'm sure it was foreign language,(possibly French) dubbed into English. I'm sure the planes being flown were Mirages.
None of my mates remember it. Did I imagine watching it?
I'm sure it was on ITV on a Saturday morning before the Wrestling!!

Does anyone else remember it?

No, but in a similar vein I remember a later series 'Squadron', where half a dozen Jaguars and a Hercules would fly off to bash the fuzzies at short notice.

Yes!

In France it was called 'Les Chevaliers du ciel' and you'll find plenty about it on the Net.

That was from about 1980-81 and had every bit of [then] current RAF hardware as a thinly disguised recriutment campaign.

Nice to know it's not just me that remembers it. I've never seen re-runs of it anywhere since the original showing.

Which is perhaps just as well - I suspect the memory is bettermthan the reality!

There was a feature film recently, loosely based on the original French TV series. Nice trailer on Youtube.

Ah, it was broadcast in Colour. Maybe I watched it on a B&W set. Cheers for the replies.

I remember it being in Black 'n' White, right after the Whirly Birds, but before Champion the Wonder Horse on a Saturday Morning....

Wasn't it called "Spearhead"?

No, it was definitely "Squadron".

I hesitate to trot out Wikipedia as proof of anything but here's the entry for the series that I'm pretty sure we're talking about.

Yeah, you are right, & there was another series called "Spearhead". And just to be "Joint" there was one called "Warship" featuring "HMS HERO".

Remember all of those! Vague memories of shiny bare aluminium Mirage IIIs in formation on a B&W telly when I was very young.

Just browsing The Aeronauts stuff online and found this thread. Stuart Maconie on BBC 6 Music had a short item on his Freakzone show, theme tune and chat with an enthusiast of 60's and 70's TV shows about the overdubbed French import about two crime solving fighter pilots. Utterly preposterous, but I loved the planes back in the day. Nobody I know seems to remember it.

Loved it as a kid in the early 1970's and believe it can be found on YouTube
