Got this in my inbox just now, guess a few others will have too if you go there frequently and have a pass.

Dear Friends,
You may be aware that as part of the government cost saving plans, they are planning to sell off much of the Forestry Commission woodlands. The sale of Bedgebury Forest to private investors could limit public access and could have an adverse impact on its biodiversity with the introduction of shoots, riding of quad bikes and the introduction of “Centre Parc” style holiday homes. Worse, the National Pinetum is the world’s leading conifer collection and is internationally renowned as a centre of excellence for conifer conservation. All of the work of the last 85 years could be lost if it were abandoned and its very beauty makes it an ideal site for executive housing development.

These are of course worst case scenarios and hopefully the government will see that a short term gain of revenue will be offset by the loss of public amenities that our woodlands provide. If you feel that you would like to register your objection please sign the 38Degrees petition which can be accessed via http://www.38degrees.org.uk/save-our-forests.

If further action is required I will let you know of any events being planned.

Please act now to keep Bedgebury in public ownership.
