Another vote here for Road To Perdition.

Also, Howard Shore's score for Lord Of The Rings butters a few parsnips for me.

I'm not much of a 'film' person so not heard all (infact looking at his filmography, very few) of his but I do like his style.

Jack Nitzsche (sp?) - Starman

Moby - the end titles of Heat

Vangelis - all of Blade Runner

In fact, I don't think Vangelis has ever got it wrong with a film.

I'm quite a fan of the Black Hawk Down soundtrack (the Joe Strummer track, "Minstrel Boy" and the instrumental "Leave no man behind" in particular).

That Moby piece at the end of Heat (God moving over the surface of the water) is superb.

Some of the Gregson-wills instrumental stuff in Spy Game is good too.

And I really like the various versions of Extreme Ways in the Bourne Trilogy.

Requiem for a Dream too, Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet. And the soundtrack for Moon, think it was the same guy.

Edited for comedy typo "Extreem" rofl

bill conte's soundrack to rocky is epic.going the distance(the music playing during stallone's training sequences)is some of the best score i've ever heard.

the jaws soundtrack is superb as well.check out "preparing the cage"

i've said it before and i'll say it again.if you like film music i implore you to check out cinematic orchestera.you will recognize loads of it because they are used a hell of a lot by people like the bbc sound archives.been a fan since their first album 12 years ago and they haven't done anything short of epic since.

Not strictly film music but I can't think of any better song to scene fits than Where Is My Mind near the end of Fight Club.

The soundtrack for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was excellent too, throughout the movie it never failed to enhance the scene. I can't remember what the rest of the Spaghettis were like, but I will take the OP's word that they were good too!

As mentioned Eric Serra for the Fifth Element. Goldeneye is even better however, think it is fantastic.

Again Vangelis and Blade Runner.

Layer Cake also has a fantastic soundtrack, really fits with the film, the Audi and the Cult, Sienna Miller getting dressed and a few other bits are perfect in it.

I dont know if it is rose tinted specs but the original Star Wars trilogy has a great score too.

And for two that arent films but have the best soundtracks.

Red dead redemption, the music fits the pacing of the game really well, perfect western film score but in the game, the song that plays when you first get to mexico is awesome, been listening to that soundtrack on repeat.

And Metal Gear Solid 2 is fantastically scored, Harry Gregson Williams does himself proud on that one!

I know some people will regard them as just silly games, but the music fits perfectly and are just brilliant!

The original Star Wars trilogy is surely well worthy of a mention.

John Williams easily goes down as my favourite composer.
