Can anyone recommend an iPhone app that allows me to plot a very precise route ( so that I don't get lost when I'm out on my bike) and assuming I don't lose gps signal allows me to cycle the inputted route? Basically I'm looking at a long route along country roads and the chances of getting lost are 100% without being able to follow the route. Whether the battery lasts is also another matter!

I use Motion X GPS to track my route when I go out. I've not used it on a long ride yet, the max is usually about 27 miles. This used about 20% of the battery life.

Signal always seems to be good, never dropped GPS and it always maps out a fairly accurate route.

Any others? Doesn't seem to be working for me, apparently it insists I live in Santa cruz

I downloaded Motion X a while ago and got rid of it as it was too fiddly to use. There must be something out there other than Garmin that can do the job

I use Bike Route Toaster to plan a route, save as a GPX and import into Google Maps. The Maps app on my (Android) phone can display the route and my location, which is all I need*.

I back it up with a printed section of OS map but of course that doesn't tell you where you are.

*Having said that's all I need I got an Edge 800 for Christmas anyway.smile

To be fair, I've never had an issue with it and have used it to import routes, track routes and even to save way points when on holiday abroad.

Check Settings --> General --> Location Services to make sure it has access to the phones GPS receiver.
