14.5mph on the rolling hills or more like humps of East Dorset on 30milers, hopefully get that up to somewhere near the 18mph I got commuting daily and doing weekend 10-20milers around SW London & Surrey, I've only been back on the bikes about 9mths after a couple of years off.

I have two different ways of tracking averages and both (helpfully) give different results. My Cateye stops recording while I'm stopped at the lights, giving a higher average than my GPS which doesn't.
For example on this ride (which was a fairly quick one by my commuting standards): http://sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/872317
The average according to the Cateye was 17mph with the true average according to the GPS being only 15.8.
Typically, the average on my Cateye will sit at just under 15mph when I'm using my bike as transport around town rather than riding hard for fun/training purposes.

I'm averaging about 13mph but that's on purpose, as I want to keep my heart rate down to burn more fat. The faster you go, the higher your bpm, and the less fat you burn.
Apparently this way of thinking is wrong. Whether you burn them anaerobically or aerobically they are all calories. There was some debate on the health forum about it, i'll see if I can get a ink.
I try to average ~18mph in the winter months and up it to 20 to 22 mph in the summer months.
I think it comes from the idea that for fat burning you are better off doing lower intensity for longer, rather than working hard for a short time.
i.e. You are better off doing spending two hours doing 13mph than one hour doing 18mph.
To answer your question from another thread (because it is vaguely related to this one), I'm pretty happy with SportyPal so far, but haven't tried many of the alternatives to compare.

With this morning's wind I was very happy to hit 4MPH
Curry night last night was it? To answer your question from another thread (because it is vaguely related to this one), I'm pretty happy with SportyPal so far, but haven't tried many of the alternatives to compare.
