I've looked everywhere for 0-60, 0-100 & 1/4 mile times for the 2001 Auto, but have found no information apart from 0-60 in 5 secs...

Got plenty of info on the manual..

1/4 miles ranging between 13.00 & 13.4 typically

0-100 ranging between 10.6 & 10.8

0-60 ranbging between 4.5 & 4.8

So how much slower is the Auto compared to the manual?? Someone must have definitive answer

1/4 mile - 13.7s @ 108mph

0-60 - 5s

So I read in black and white.

Motor Trend figures for an auto C5 convertible with the 350bhp are 0-60 in 4.9 and quarter in 13.3 @ 105.6mph. That will be fractionally heavier. The M6 figures for 2001 were 60 in 4.8 and the quarter in 13.1 @ 109.1.

Because the weather's such rubbish again I've been looking back through my Vette info to see what figures have been published. There are often wide variations in tests of the same model. The figures seem to be,

ZR1 - 380bhp @ 6,200, 370 lb/ft @ 4,200, max 180mph, weight 1570kg

C5 - 345bhp @ 5,600, 350 lb/ft @ 4,400, max 172mph, weight 1470kg.

Manual C5 gets to 60 in 4.7 and the auto in 5.0. However it is only in the initial move off the line that the manual has an advantage and they are neck and neck after that. The auto does 0-100 in 13.1 with the vital 30-70 in 4.5. 100 to 140 is just 13.0. The overall straight line performance looks very similar between C5 and ZR1 with the ZR marginally quicker off the line but then penalised by its extra weight so that the 0 - 100 time is marginally quicker for C5.

Gearing of C5 is

Manual. 1st 52 mph, 2nd 77mph, 3rd 105mph, 4th 137mph, 5th 170 mph, 6th 170mph.

Auto. 1st 49mph, 2nd 92mph, 3rd 150 mph, 4th 170mph.

These figures explain the enthusiasm of the granny tranny to kick down to 2nd for any full throttle use in normal road conditions. The torque available throughout the rev range makes the acceleration and speed in 2nd simply astounding. The figures also seem to confirm my experience that for back road use it's best to leave the transmission in 3rd rather than Drive. I suspect that any advantage of the manual from having more gears to choose from is offset by the time it takes for a gear change.

There are small variances between the figures I have mentioned and those elsewhere in this thread. The only certainty seems to be that a well driven manual has the potential to be 0.5 seconds quicker to 30mph than the auto.
