To be honest tyre choice is an entirely personal thing.

I run Panaracer Fire XCs, they are one of the oldest designs out there but are still one of the most popular.

The best advise i can give is to get down to WH Smiths and wait for MBUK or similar to do one of their annual tyre group tests, or alternatively get over to bikeradar.com and i'm sure this issue will have been covered repeatedly.

by no means an exhaustive list, just ones I have used...
Mud / winter tyre - Bonty Mud X UST
General use all terrain / all conditions - Mountain King 2.2 or 2.4 UST
Racing / all terrain - Nobby Nics UST

So many variables it a real trial and error thing.

There's a database of tyre reviews on Bikeradar.

I tend to stick to Maxxis and Highrollers in particular, but I almost exclusively ride trail centres so the terrain is largely the same year-round.

I have not found the reviews on Bikeradar to be that useful - The actual reviews by Journos are good but if you read the comments they are very contradictory.

Best thing to do is to ask local riders and decent local shops what works on your local trails. This will also depend on riding style so often a good method is to look at local riders you admire and ask them about tyre choice.

tyres are such a personal thing, more than anything its down to riding style then weather conditions, trail conditions and pressure.

as an example where speed isnt an issue and i am just cocking about, i like the way fire xc pros lose traction and slide on the knobbly edges at a certain lean angles on dry, loose surfaces but others prefer a much more predictable ride and use racing ralphs or something...

Are there any more puncture resistant tyres? For the second time in 3 days I have ended up with a flat tyre due to hedge trimming on the canal tow path leaving seriously spikey thorns all over the place, Ideally the tyres should also be good in mud/wet grass and ok on harder surfaces.
