No this doesnt bold well for my plans of a body off next winter.........but Im trying to remove the door trim on the passenger door so I can reposition the window frame (the window has dropped by about 3/4 inch) Ive found one of the 3 ten mill bolts just below and to the right of the speaker, but cannot find the other two.....I was fumbling in the rain so gave up, but can anybody adivse where to look/feel....the bible sadly isnt all that helpful on this one.

There should be four!

One by the speaker - which you have.
one behind and to one side of the door mirror switch.
one behind the ciggy lighter and the last one directly down and to the right of the lighter.
To save your arm put a piece duck tap around the speaker hole and lightly grease your arm. You will also need to insert your elbow for the last two. Best to sit your backside on the floor with your back to the door hinge.
Replace nuts with s/s wingnuts.
Hope that makes sense.

The door cards are in two parts, an 'inner' card and an 'outer' frame that goes over it. Four studs bonded to the bottom of the frame pass through holes in the card (see red arrows) and the door and are secured with 10mm nuts over large plain washers. The green arrows show the approximate locations of the studs. If an ashtray is fitted, there is a self-tapper behind it. Once this and the nuts are removed, the frame can be pulled away from the bottom of the door. The top of the frame has a lip that hooks over the top of the card: lift the frame to release it (it may be tight). The card is screwed to the door by self-tappers (yellow arrows). If the card is carpeted you may have to dig around to find the screw heads.

Best tip anyone can give is to wear a long sleeved t-shirt & gloves wink

Close second is to pack the bottom of the door with an old towel or something so that its easier to retrieve the parts you will drop laugh

Personally I think removing these door panels (and I have the scars to prove I've done my own) is justification enough to bring back child labour, oh, and my chimney needs cleaning.

Really helpful guys much appreciated, due to being impatient I decided the take the dash board out instead, will be coming back to the door next weekend, and will definitely be taking all this advice on board, after buying the chim I had 4 jobs which I needed to do:

POR the underside - check
Waterproof the roof - check
Re fit door/window and replace rubber seals - bugger that, fitted a nice wooden gear stick instead
Replace dash board - see next thread

Regarding the removal of the dashboard, that's another story and I will start a new thread since I have pics lol, but nedless to say, never get your father-in-law involved

Funnily enough I did this for the 1st time yesterday aswell, the hardest bit was getting the grill off the speaker hehe but then I do have rather skinny arms and amazingly didnt drop one tool! (I await losing half my tool kit now refitting them! hehe but My ciggy lighter now works and I just need to get some spray grease to speed the windows up a bit.

To save using a ratchet replace nuts with wing-nuts next time.

Not my idea but a useful tip from a previous post.

The same applies to the dashboard top which also used normal nuts as standard.

Great photo by Cider Andy.

Can anyone help please. Having read the articals regarding removing the door trims it all sounded easy. However I managed to get the 3 10mm nuts of at the front of the door then came the problem. Looking at the photos posted there are two 10mm nust to remove at the middle/bottom of the door. The door moulding seems to be different and there is no way that I can get my hand past the window motor - there's no space. I have a Dec 1999 model. Does any one know if the fixing to the door trims changed?

Much appreciated. Have had lost of help in the past.

Regards,

Gladwin.

It really is a bit of a struggle to get your hand past the motor, I found lying outside the car, facing the rear of the car and using my left hand, almost up to my shoulder through the door speaker appeture worked. I used a 10mm long socket on a ratchet to do it.

Mine is a 97 and I don't believe the door mouldings changed..

(BTW that's the driver's door, the passenger door is the same only I used my right arm)

Thanks very much for your help. I will have another go. The window being down may not be helping matters. This all came about because I wound the window down and it would not go up. I have power to the motor terminals, therefore assumed I need to check the motor.

Window needs to be up to get your arm to those last nuts.

Thanks to the search facility and advice on this thread I have been able to take the door card off and fix my lighter. Thanks to my child slave (son) the job was much easier and only cost me 4 packs of World Cup cards. My wife had to fish out the two dropped wing nuts though. Good family effort all round smile
