OK My first posting on H Cinema etc, So please be gentle, with high tech terms etc,

After 12 reliable yrs it is time for my Sony CRT to be replaced (anyone want it) and having just done the lounge out which is 4.5mts x 5mts, and being close to 60 i would like a system to last 10yrs again it will probably see me out then.

I have a Sony STR-DB 830 Digital Audio/Video Control Centre 32bit (S-Video conects only) which has run a Mission FS-2 8ohms suround sound system.

So do i chuck all off the above away and start again ? Has things moved on so far, does everthing need an HDMI connect to view an HD Picture ? Or can i use any of it.

My aim is to have a very very good picture on a very large screen (plasma or LCD OR LED no preference)watching nature/wildlife and F1 and DVDS (On Blu Ray which i also need) (no ball games) so HD is a must and good sound as need to play cds isten to radio on the same system etc.
Happy to convert Sat Dish (do not want a contract)to twin coax to watch Free Sat and Record etc.
I have Freeview on Sony Bravia in the kitchen which amazes me with u-tube pc connectivity etc

But just thinking would Freesat be better in the lounge or could have both with tv built in Freeview.

I have always been a Sony man but happy to move to a Panasonic etc, So looks like i need TV Spec as above, Fresat reciever. HD Recorder the Humax looks likely, Blue Ray Player etc,

Budget no idea but happy around £1.5k + a bit is this possible please,

oola

Ok, some of my thoughts.

Get rid of the Sony centre and replace with an AVR from Onkyo or Denon. You need to be running HDMI from your Sat box and your Blu Ray player into your AVR, then into your TV. Use the AVR for switching sources (Sat box or Blu Ray). The Mission FS-2 should be ok ... I would be tempted to change but you may not have the budget at present if you need an AVR and TV.

Go with Freesat HD.

If you like Sony, then the Bravia's are very good and they're AVR's arn't too bad if you want to stick with the brand.

If you spend £400 ish on an AVR, then it'll only leave you £1100 ish for the TV .. you won't get a 60" Sony for that money so you may need to compromise somewhere.
