Game of Thrones - No spoilers

Bit of a latecomer to the series. I always pooh-pooohed it as being a bit nerdy / dungeons and dragons. Then son downloaded the first series onto our media player and I watched the first episode, then the second then the third. Then got wife into it, watched the first three episodes again, and then the rest of the series on one massive go. Reading the first book now too.
Loving this, only discovered it midday through this year and have so far watched both seasons twice.
Cant wait for the S1 + S2 boxset to come out, taking quite a while.
Also from what ive seen March 2013 for season 3 release, unsure whether thats for everyone of just the US.
Just a tip dont google image Sahara Knite to find out who she is at work .....oops

Shame real history is never written as excitingly as GOT, although it was just as savage and complicated; think of Edward II's wife plotting with her lover to have the King's intestines burned out, later the King's son, Edward III as a teenager finding his way through a secret passage into the castle chamber where his mother and her lover lay together; claiming the crown, having the lover executed and throwing mum into prison. Then when the Wars of the Roses kicks off it's full-on mayhem for generations.
GOT's geography is clearly Britain - the Wall is obviously Hadrian's Wall (to the south, civilization, to the north a barren wasteland where half dead zombie-like creatures dwell. The North is obviously Yorkshire and Winterfell is Sheffield. King's Landing is London. The Narrow Sea is the Channel, beyond which live horse eaters (the French). No wonder it all seems familiar!

I think GRRM has said in interviews he was inspired by English history and the inspiration for the Wall is definitely Hadrians Wall as he talks about it in a book I'm currently reading. I'm not sure the Dothraki are French though, I see them more as desert nomads in Africa as Drone from the later books struck me as Spanish

Aren't the Dothraki more like the Mongolian hoards?I hadnt considered the Mongolians but you may well be correct in terms of society but Im still going with where North Africa is in terms of location as there is not really any sea between us and Mongolia that would fit.
In other news I have a cookbook now and am going to try and make some of the food from it. Lemoncakes do sound good!!!
